2 New Legal Weed Stores Open in N.J. This Week

Two more New Jersey recreational cannabis retail stores opened this week, further expanding the market to 26 shops where adults over the age 21 may buy legal weed.

Holistic Solutions, at 451 White Horse Pike in Atco, and Valley Wellness, at 407 U.S. Route 202 in Raritan, opened to customers on Monday and Wednesday, respectively.

Both dispensaries are women-owned business enterprises and independently owned by New Jersey natives, having opened their doors in recent months to serve medicinal cannabis patients. Valley Wellness, owned by Sarah Trent, opened in late November 2022. Holistic Solutions, owned by Suzan Nickelson — the first Black owner to open a cannabis shop in the state — had a ribbon cutting ceremony in February, coinciding with Black History Month.

“We are so excited to be able to open our doors to recreational consumers,” Nickelson said. “We’ve had a long journey to get here and we’re ready to serve the community.”

Nickelson’s Camden County-based dispensary opens its doors at 8:30 a.m., serving medical patients only until 10:30 a.m. From then on, both patients and adult consumers over 21 may purchase products until 9:30 p.m. For special hours of operations, visit the store’s website. The store accepts cash only. There is no ATM on the premises. (Phone: 856-270-7067.)

Valley Wellness was the first independently owned dispensary to open in the Garden State. It is the second dispensary to open in Somerset County.

“While the market is expanding, it takes cannabis companies months, if not years, to open. So we expect our product selection will remain stable and similar over the next year or so,” Trent said. “That said we are anxious to add new products made from local New Jersey growers and manufacturers.”
